DYNAMIC POWER:
DRAWING THE BOW FROM THE CHEST by Mihai Cozmei

The optimal combination of accuracy and rate of fire is the main skill to be developed in mounted archery.
In order to be able to load and shoot fast without loosing power and accuracy, all the technical movements should be perfectly balanced.
The ideal form is to have always the arms moving symmetrically: closing the hands during the loading and open them at drawing-release.

At the level of the drawing technique this means to push the bow from the chest with the left hand, while pulling the string back with the right hand.
In one ancient Chinese archery manual the archer is advised to push the bow from the chest “like the moon rising from his breast”…

In our opinion, this technique requires a dynamic stance, otherwise it becomes very difficult to stretch the bow arm steadily and fast enough without avoiding the stress at the level of the elbow and shoulder.
Is more easy to open an elastic door by pushing first your body (with the left shoulder in front), through it, than using just the arms while standing unmoved in front.

Considering the bow as an elastic door, the drawing operation can be done with minimum muscular effort, by using the weight in motion of the chest turning into the bow.
This method can be compared with playing billiard:
When you hit a stationary ball with the other ball, the first one starts moving, while the hitting ball  stops (eventually even move back).
The hitting ball is the body, while the passive one is the bow.

For a good power transfer the bow arm should remain relaxed and elastic during the entire operation.
In our opinion, the optimal drawing position is with the both hands on the same level in front of the chest, with the left elbow near touching the body on the vertical line under the bow hand.
It is an double bended arm’s form, like an “attacking cobra”, with the wrist and the elbow locked in an elastic way.

The drawing operation starts with a short push from the chest, while turning the shoulders on the shooting line.
The power is transmitted to the bow while stretching naturally the left arm, avoiding all the time the stress at the level of the elbow, wrist and shoulder.
Because of the “billiard effect”, the body  is not going out of the balance, but it stops while sending just the bow forward.

The bow is drawn 90% practically without muscular effort, just using the weight in motion of the chest turning into the bow.
The full back tension is applied just at the snatched release, together with a lightning fast drawing of the last one-two inches of the arrow.

One of the most important conditions is to keep the left arm always supple and elastic.
After release, the left arm is bringing immediately the bow back, with the string horizontal in contact with the inner forearm and the elbow at the same level.
Practically the operation starts by letting the left elbow to fall by itself in the drawing position, followed immediately by an other push from the chest.
When the elbow is reaching the middle line, the nocking is already completed and the power transfer can be done without interruptions.

The right hand reacts automatically, pulling the string while rotating back the drawing elbow (like we described  in the previous post about the Circular Method).

Human body cells have 46 chromosomes arranged in 23 pairs. There are 22 pairs of autosomes and one pair of sex chromosomes (allosomes). For a male the sex chromosomes are usually XY whilst for a female they are XX. To make a baby, a sperm has to join with an ovum (or egg cell).
You should know that they only have half of the DNA of a body cell; they are ‘haploid’. Instead of 46 chromosomes, so 23 pairs, they just have 23 chromosomes in total. 22 autosomes and one sex chromosome, or allosome. An ovum will always have an X chromosome but the sperm will have an X or a Y. If we looked at this in a punnett square, the gametes from the female would always be X. So X, X. And the gametes from the male would be either X or Y.

So really, it is the man who determines the gender of the child. He brings the Y which is the only chance of a male childUnfortunately for Anne Boleyn, a wife of King Henry 8th of England in the 16th century, she was executed for not providing a male heir to the throne when really his sperm were to blame! From the punnett square, we would expect 50% of the offspring to be male and 50% to be female. But the actual outcomes may be different. One couple could for example end up with 4 girls. Discounting social factors such as sex-selective abortions, at birth the natural male-to-female sex ratio for humans is about 105 males to 100 females.
It is thought that this is nature’s way of overcoming the fact that males have a higher risk of dying younger than females. The overall world male-to-female sex ratio drops down to 101 males to every 100 females, so is closer to the expected 50% of each.

Most tortoiseshell cats are female because this fur colour is a characteristic found on the X chromosome. But males have one X chromosome, so why can’t males be tortoiseshell?

For a tortoiseshell cat, two X chromosomes are needed to show the three different colours. So as females have XX sex-chromosomes, they can be tortoiseshell. But XY males can’t.
Now I say ‘most’ rather than all because you can occasionally get a male tortoiseshell cat, just like you can occasionally get a human man with XX chromosomes. These rare individuals have an extra strand of DNA, and so are XXY (rather than just XY). So the male has the double X’s needed to be tortoiseshell.
There are other rare chromosomal disorders that mean you can have XX human males and XY females. Or Turner syndrome when only one sex chromosome is present, a solitary X. XYY and XXYY are two more syndromes, and there are many others. From this video you should now know that females usually have XX sex-chromosomes, and males usually have XY. The father provides the Y-chromosome, and so the chance of having a male child falls on his shoulders.

Every organism is made from cells. Cells contain thread like structure known as chromosomes.
In humans, there are 46 chromosomes in each cell. And these chromosomes are found in pairs. So there are 23 pairs.

In male and female, all the pairs of chromosomes are same except one pair.
Chromosomes in this pair are called sex chromosomes.
Sex chromosomes can be of 2 types namely X and Y. In a male cell, both x and y chromosomes are present but in female cell 2 x chromosomes are present.

We know that male reproductive cells are known as sperm and female reproductive cells are known as eggs. reproductive cells are different from normal cells as they contain only 23 chromosomes. One from each pair.

When sperm cell and egg are combined together, they form a cell which has 46 chromosomes or 23 pairs. This new cell formed is called zygote and develops into baby.

Since reproductive cells have only 23 chromosomes, sperm cell can contain either x or y chromosome. And a egg cell will always have x chromosome. During reproduction, lot of sperm cells are released and only one sperm fertilises the egg.

when sperm containing Y chromosome fertilises the egg, resultant cell will have a sex chromosome containing x and y chromosome and the zygote will grow into a boy.

But when the sperm cell containing x chromosome fertilises the egg, resultant cell will have a pair of x chromosomes and the zygote will grow into a girl.

It is clear that a child will be a boy or girl , depends on male and not the female.
